Drug delivery to the brain workshop

Combining expertise to improve drug delivery to the brain

Discussing the development of transformative research plans that will lead to new, innovative treatments, the workshop attracted leading experts from around the world, as well as representatives from UK based charities such as Cancer Research UK and The Brain Tumour Charity. The workshop presented an opportunity for sharing knowledge and discoveries to accelerate the development of drug delivery systems to target brain tumours. The workshop included an interactive afternoon session, where delegates networked with the aim of meeting new potential research collaborators, coming up with new research ideas and finding inspiration on how to take their research to the next level. All were exploring ways to overcome the significant challenges presented by childhood brain tumour drug delivery.

Grants given to pilot research projects

An exclusive opportunity was offered to delegates to bid for three awards, called Pump Prime Awards, of £5,000 to fund pilot research projects. Many delegates were involved in discussions to explore potential pitches for these awards. Towards the end of the afternoon, eight pitches were presented to the rest of the delegates and to the judging panel, and three were selected for funding.
