In memory of Eddie O’Gorman OBE

We are deeply saddened to share the news with you that Children with Cancer UK’s Founder Eddie O’Gorman OBE, passed away earlier today. Eddie and his wife Marion co-founded Children with Cancer UK more than 35 years ago following the tragedy of losing two of their children to cancer. Eddie had a tremendous impact upon us all at Children with Cancer UK, and we are sure many of our supporters too.  Our heartfelt condolences and sympathies go to Eddie’s family during this very difficult time.

Children with Cancer UK is delighted to announce that Gavin Maggs has been appointed as CEO. He will take up his new role in June 2025 and be based in the London office near Holborn.

Children with Cancer UK to open new rural retreat for families affected by childhood cancer in Spring 2025

Raines Retreat will be the UK’s first holiday let designed solely for children affected by cancer and their families. It will open on the site of the former Rains Farm in Allerston, near Pickering, North Yorkshire, and will offer the chance for families to escape the day-to-day stresses of childhood cancer, make new memories and connect with others who have experienced the pain of a cancer diagnosis.

2025 Research Grant Funding Call is now live

We are delighted to announce that our 2025 Research Grant Funding Call is now live. The call focuses on research into childhood, teenage & young adult cancers. We will look to support research projects for our new research priorities.

Paula Radcliffe's Marathon Run Club podcast series

As we gear up for the 2025 TCS London Marathon, we’re thrilled to introduce Paula Radcliffe’s Marathon Run Club, a 16-week podcast series hosted by legendary marathon runner and our ambassador, Paula Radcliffe alongside her good friend and fellow Olympian Chris Thompson.

The podcasts will run from 6 January to 2 April 2024.

Research is essential

To save children’s lives, research is essential. Childhood cancers are different to adult cancers and need their own research. Most childhood cancers are unique to children.

At Children with Cancer UK we want to find safer, more effective treatments for all young patients. Cancer is still the most common medical cause of death in children and young people. Our focus as a children’s cancer charity is to fund visionary research and bring the breakthroughs that will bring hope to children and their families.

It started with a promise

Our journey started with a promise to a dying boy. The O’Gorman family were shattered when brother and sister, Paul and Jean, fell victim to cancer within nine months of each other. 14-year-old Paul died only six weeks after his initial diagnosis of leukaemia. But before he died, Paul asked his parents, Marion and Eddie O’Gorman, to help other children with leukaemia.

Paul’s sister Jean, in defiance of her cancer, started to raise money in her brother’s memory. She died just nine months later.
