Cancer is a cause close to Saffron’s heart, after the TOWIE star lost friend Sammy Jo Brandon to breast cancer last year, aged just 29. Her late friend’s dying wish was to help prevent childhood cancer – a cause which has motivated Saffron to tackle her first ever marathon and raise funds for Children with Cancer UK. Saffron says:
Towards the end of her life, it was Sammy’s desire to help stop children having to face the operations, chemotherapy and pain involved in cancer treatment – which is bad enough for adults to go through, let alone children. Sammy accepted that she was going to lose her own life but wanted to help save children’s lives. This is why the work of Children with Cancer UK – in funding research into new and better treatments for childhood cancers – is so important.Currently in the midst of training, with her latest session consisting of a 10-mile run, Saffron says she is “nervous but excited” for her upcoming 26.2-mile run in the Capital. I’ve got five weeks to go until the big day which makes me a little nervous as I’m not naturally a runner but, regardless of my time, I’m determined to finish the Marathon to support all children battling cancer and in memory of my friend Sammy. If you see me running the streets of Essex, make sure you beep as loud as you can, it might help me run an extra mile!
