60 marathons in 2020!
Early in 2020 Adam initially set himself the challenge of taking on 20 marathons and 20 half marathons in 2020 in order to raise funds for Children with Cancer UK. Unfortunately, after the global pandemic hit, many of his booked events were cancelled.
As part of the challenge, Adam had intended to participate in a number of running events, including the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon, together with 3 of the Challenge Ultra Series 50km events (Peak District, Cotswolds and Chilterns).
In spite of this, Adam replaced the cancelled events with GPS tracked runs of the same distance in order to complete the challenge and still raise the funds for Children with Cancer UK.
Adam even managed to complete his challenge early, completing all 40 runs in six months instead of twelve, completing his ‘2020 Challenge’ with his 20th marathon on 30th June!
Having completed the task early, Adam decided to extend the challenge and continue fundraising, and so committed to running 60 half marathons and 30 marathons in total for the year – double the original challenge distance and the equivalent of 60 marathons. Together with his ‘other’ running distances, he has run over 3,000 km in 2020, and has currently raised in excess of £4,000.
It has certainly been a challenge – both physically and mentally, in particular given the number of ‘solo’ runs. I am so pleased to have been able to contribute to Children with Cancer UK, particularly in these unprecedented times when raising funds is so important. Now it’s time for a bit of a rest!
We cannot thank Adam enough for all his hard work, dedication and determination to complete this extended challenge despite the difficulties 2020 presented. His amazing fundraising efforts will continue to help us invest in high quality research, as well as giving hope to children and young people amid the COVID-19 uncertainty.
