Fundraiser of the Month: James

What’s the fundraising challenge you set yourself and why?

I’m trying to run as many races as I can to help raise money and awareness for Children with Cancer UK. Over the last few years I’ve managed to run half marathons, marathons, ultra marathons, triathlons, OCR’s, and complete “Marathon Des Sables” twice, a 250km self sufficient race through the Sahara desert dubbed the toughest footrace on Earth. Leading up to the London Marathon I really wanted to do something different to boost my fundraising, so I ran four half marathons and then the London Marathon wearing a 25lb military backpack.

How much money have you raised so far?

So far I have raised £7,292 for Children with Cancer UK.

Why did you decide to fundraise for Children with Cancer UK?

My mum was diagnosed with cancer in 2018, after surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy she was given the all clear in 2019 and the same day my dad was diagnosed with Cancer. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like for a child to go through that so I decided to start raising money for Children with Cancer UK.

How’s your challenge going? If it’s completed – how did you find it?

I tore my patella tendon and had chronic tendinitis so couldn’t run for a while which was frustrating. But I’m back to it now and the fundraising challenges are going great. This year I’ve signed up to various half marathons, marathons, ultra’s, a 24hr race and in August I’m running a 250km self sufficient race through Iceland. I’m hoping to be accepted to run the London Marathon again for Children with Cancer UK in 2025.
