Fundraiser of the Month: Charlotte

What’s the fundraising challenge you set yourself and why?

We organised a fancy black tie ball. I wanted to have a celebration, dress up and dance the night away – which is something I dreamt of when I was little.

How much money have you raised so far?

So far I have raised £20,614.75 for Children with Cancer UK.

Why did you decide to fundraise for Children with Cancer UK?

I was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma (BL) when I was six years old and I received support from the charity. I know the importance of research, to try to find less painful and more effective treatments, and also the emotional and financial support that my parents and brother had too.

How’s your challenge going? If it’s completed – how did you find it?

We spent a year planning our ball. We set up a little group of our friends and we each organised small bits at a time. We had an auction, raffle, singer and disco. Everything was donated for free. We even had sponsors from local businesses which helped with the costs such as the balloons and the decorations. I found the organising quite challenging but every time we ticked something off our list it was great.

What would you say to anyone else who is considering taking on a fundraising challenge?

Go for it. People are so generous with their time and money. The feeling that you get when you know you’ve raised money which will help other children and their families is just as good as ringing the bell.

By fundraising, Charlotte has raised £20,614.75 for Children with Cancer UK’s work, which will help us invest in more life-saving childhood cancer research. We’d like to say a huge thank you for your support – it is only thanks to supporters like you that we can continue our work.
