What is Game Changers?

Take on the ultimate gaming challenge and raise money to fund life saving research for children and young people with cancer.

How to get involved

Join us this September (or whenever you choose) to game for Children with Cancer UK. Go solo or gather your friends or colleagues and take part as a team – the choice is yours. The ultimate challenge is to game for 12 hours but this can be adapted to suit you. You also have the opportunity to earn badges as you reach your fundraising goals.

Your fundraising page for the challenge can be linked to Twitch or YouTube if you’re planning to stream your gaming, so that your supporters can donate easily.

Took part in Game Changers before and want to give your feedback? If you fill in our survey below before 16th March at 23:59, you will automatically be enrolled into a Prize Draw where you could win a £25 gaming voucher of your choice. Please read the Terms and Conditions of the Prize Draw at the bottom of this webpage carefully before completing the survey.

Fundraising should be fun (the hint is in the name ‘fun’draising!), so to help you on your way towards your target, we have put together a Cheat sheet with hints, tips and things to consider when completing Game Changers.

The most important thing to remember is to shout about what you are doing. Share your fundraising page with your friends and family. Keep posting on social media right up until you complete your challenge and make sure to post after to let everyone know how you did. We have some social media badges that you can post.

If anyone happens to give you sponsor money in cash, you can pay it in on your online fundraising page yourself, or send a cheque with a completed sponsorship form to:

Game Changers

If you are still worried about how you might raise your target, get in touch with us by emailing fundraising@childrenwithcancer.org.uk or giving us a call on 0800 222 9000.

Do I need a fancy set-up to get involved?

No, not at all. So long as you have a console and a game/games you’d like to play you’re all set! The consoles we recommend are PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Please see ‘How do I stream my event?’ below for further advice.

Do I have to game for 12 hours?

No, of course not. Although 12 hours is the ultimate challenge against cancer, if you don’t feel comfortable gaming for that long, please do not feel obliged. We want you to enjoy your fundraising, so if you would prefer to game for a shorter period of time you are more than welcome. That being said, if you would rather game for more than 12 hours we welcome your commitment to the challenge and support you fully!

Whilst gaming for an extended period of time it is important to keep yourself healthy. Don’t forget to take regular breaks from your screen to stretch your legs and give your eyes a break. Try setting an alarm on your phone every hour for a 5 minute break. Keep hydrated and fuelled throughout your challenge. Stock up on water and healthy snacks to munch on. Avoid caffeine, energy or high-sugar drinks to prevent a crash. Make sure you are well rested with a good night’s sleep before you participate.

How do I stream my event?

Here’s a handy guide to setting up a stream. We recommend using Twitch to stream your gaming. Make sure to add our awesome stream frames to your Twitch videos, available on this page above.

Do I have to stream my event?

Whilst we recommend you stream your event because it’s super fun for you, and anyone watching, it is not expected. You can simply complete your challenge and send a link to your fundraising page to your friends and family.

How do I set up my fundraising page?

Setting up your fundraising page is super easy, just head on over to our dedicated Game Changers page and register your challenge there.

On your fundraising page you will be able to change the name of your page, set and update your target, add photos and personalise your page by adding a story about why you are fundraising for Children with Cancer UK.

Can I set up a team page?

Of course, we welcome you and your gaming crew! Our new dedicated Game Changers site has the functionality to register for the challenge as a team.

What is Gift Aid and am I eligible?

Gift Aid makes a huge difference when it comes to how much money we can raise to support children and young people living with cancer. For every £1 raised we can receive an extra 25p at no extra cost to you or your sponsors.

To be eligible to add Gift Aid to your donation, you must be a UK taxpayer and understand that if you pay less income tax and/or capital gains tax then the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all donations made in that tax year it’s your responsibility to pay the difference.

The option to tick Gift Aid will be on your fundraising page when you go to donate. You can encourage eligible sponsors to select Gift Aid and raise even more money to support Children with Cancer UK. Find out more about Gift Aid here.

How do I connect my game play on Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo Switch to my fundraising page?

You will need to connect your Twitch account to your fundraising page. To do this go to your store on Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo Switch and install the Twitch app and login. Once you’ve done this, you can connect your Twitch account to your fundraising page.

If you’d prefer to link to your Mixer or PlayStation Live, copy and paste the stream link to your story section on your page.

Can under 18s take part?

Yes, under 18s can take part. We recommend that all under 16’s have permission from a parent or legal guardian due to the nature of gaming activities.
We take the health of our supporters seriously, regardless of age. Please take regular breaks from your screen to stretch your legs and give your eyes a break.

How you're helping

By getting involved and hosting your 12-hour gaming for charity marathon you will be helping more children like Felix have a future they deserve by gaming for Children with Cancer UK. Felix was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) when he was just 10 years old. He finally finished treatment and rang his end of treatment bell in April 2019.
