Corinna took on RideLondon at the end of May, cycling 100 miles through London and the Essex countryside. By completing RideLondon she also won herself the coveted London Classics medal, having taken on not just RideLondon but also the London Marathon and the two mile Swim Serpentine distance. She says:
It was an unforgettable experience. To see the huge crowds lined up alongside Tower Bridge at the finish line as I completed nearly 102 miles in the saddle in just over six hours was completely overwhelming. Sheer relief too that I had got round without any major mishaps. An incredible day!
She decided to take on RideLondon not just to complete the London Classics, but also to fundraise for us at Children with Cancer UK. At the end of her challenge, Corinna had raised more than £4,000, absolutely smashing her fundraising. For Corinna, the fundraising was personal. She explains:
As we approached my son being two years in remission from Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, I wanted to raise money for a charity that was in part responsible for co-funding elements of a ground breaking clinical trial – the MRD, Minimal Residual Disease trial – that has greatly improved the outcome for children, like my son, with leukaemia.
We’re so grateful for Corinna’s support, which enables us to fund even more life-saving childhood cancer research that can help more children like her son in the future. When Corinna was asked what she’d say to anyone else considering taking on a fundraising challenge, she told us:
Don’t think about it – just do it! The sense of achievement is long lasting, as is the knowledge that you’re helping to raise vital funds for research and development into improving the outcome for all childhood cancers.
If our children can show such resilience, stoicism and calm in overcoming bouts of chemotherapy and everything else that is thrown at them during such an unwanted journey, we can 100% do anything we set our minds to.
Corinna – we’re so impressed with your determination and efforts, and we’re incredibly thankful not only for your support, but also for being willing to share your fundraising story and journey. It’s only thanks to incredible supporters like you that we can continue our work. Thank you.
