Climbing Pendle Hill
Josh and his classmates were set a fundraising challenge by their school. As Josh has experienced childhood cancer himself, they were inspired to help others going through similar journeys.
Our school set us a Change Maker Mission over this last term so myself and my friends, Jasmine and Poppy decided that we were going to focus on childhood cancer. We wanted to raise awareness but also to raise money to help others. I had cancer when I was three so it was very important that we chose childhood cancer as it’s something lots of people don’t know too much about and we need to keep researching to find better treatments and of course to help children and their families. We made a video to raise awareness and chose to climb Pendle Hill as our challenge.
Josh explains why it was important to him and his friends that they support Children with Cancer UK:
Children with Cancer UK are a very special charity to us all. My friends have always been so supportive and really wanted to help too. We wanted to help other children with cancer as the charity helped me and my family so much so it was good that we could make a difference for them to help others. It was hard at times climbing Pendle Hill but we also really enjoyed it. It was a brilliant feeling when we all got to the top.
For anyone thinking of doing their own fundraiser, Josh advises:
Challenges can be hard at times but absolutely worth it. It is an incredible feeling to know that we are helping others and making a difference to children with cancer and their families.
By taking on the climb, and setting up their fundraising page, Josh and his friends have raised an amazing £1100 for Children with Cancer UK’s work, which will help us invest in more life-saving childhood cancer research. We’d like to say a huge thank you for your support – it is only thanks to supporters like you that we can continue our work.
If you would like to raise money in aid of Children with Cancer UK, we’ll help you every step of the way.
We wanted to help other children with cancer as the charity helped me and my family.
