Jo Elvin, who officially takes up her new role on Tuesday 19 April, will work closely with Children with Cancer UK’s team and trustees to continue the charity’s mission of funding and supporting research that they are determined will one day lead to a world without childhood cancer.
For the last 20 years, multi award-winning Elvin has worked as a leader in the world of publishing and broadcast and is renowned for her work as pioneering editor of Glamour magazine that, under her direction, rapidly became the biggest-selling women’s magazine in the UK and Europe. Subsequently she became editor of The Mail on Sunday’s YOU magazine, which is the most widely-read women’s publication in Britain with close to two million readers every week.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Jo onboard”, said David Gibbs, Chair of Trustees at Children with Cancer UK. “She has in-depth business knowledge, credibility and experience, leadership skills as well as an exemplary work ethic.
“One of the many reasons we appointed Jo was her outstanding aptitude for understanding what people are passionate about, which will be invaluable in future collaborations, helping us to continue to raise both awareness and donations for the charity. Additionally, we welcome Jo’s commitment to doing all she can to help us continue to grow Children with Cancer UK and support the incredible families, fundraisers and donors, without whom we would not be able to continue the life-changing research that the charity has been a significant part of during the last 30 years”.
Elvin said of her appointment. “It is a privilege to be stepping into my new role as the CEO of Children with Cancer UK. The O’Gorman family have built an organisation that has been saving young lives for decades.
“I am very much looking forward to the next chapter in my working life which will include guarding and building on that legacy. Together with our excellent trustees, we aim to take the charity to even greater successes in raising vital funds for groundbreaking research into children’s cancer, as well as doing everything in our power to be there for patients and their families when they need us most.”
