My name is Tom Clarke and I own and run a design company called Fred Studio and I am based in North Yorkshire. During lockdown, I decided to follow my dream and undertook a course in Garden Design at The Inch Bald School of Design and subsequently launched myself into the wold of horticulture and the designing of inspirational outside spaces. I was a successful applicant of the RHS Tatton Young Designer of the Year Category 2022, becoming a Silver Medallist.
Using this as a launch pad, I was commissioned by the charity Children with Cancer UK to redesign a large rural landscape in the North of England. Having forged a brilliant working relationship with the Charity’s Project Lead, it became clear that the charity would be my natural choice as sponsors when I was offered the opportunity to complete a Balcony Garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show this year.
Working with Children with Cancer UK, it became apparent that to provide a beautiful outside space that could be enjoyed and utilised by a family in order to offer some respite from the problems that they may be having to face, would be a great basis for my design. This became the inspiration to my design, in the hope of providing a calming yet inspirational space for such a family to enjoy.
We leave for Chelsea shortly to start on the construction of our Balcony Garden, Children with Cancer UK Raines Repurposed and I hope that the finished garden will become a much needed platform in helping to raise awareness of childhood cancer and the valued work done by Children with Cancer UK in supporting families coping with the unimaginable and I am very proud to be able to play a part in this.
